About the Ford LTD II
The Ford LTD II was introduced in 1977 as a restyled successor to the Torino, intended to bridge the gap between traditional American luxury and the emerging trend of downsizing. Despite being marketed as an intermediate, it was built on a massive 114-inch wheelbase for the coupe and featured a body-on-frame construction that made it heavier and longer than many contemporary full-size rivals. The 302 cubic-inch (5.0L) Windsor V8 served as the entry-level powerplant, prioritising smooth, quiet cruising over outright performance. It remains a notable example of the 'Brougham' era, defined by its stacked quad headlights, opera windows, and plush, sofa-like interior.
