About the Ford Fusion
The European Ford Fusion was marketed as an 'Urban Activity Vehicle', bridging the gap between a traditional supermini and a small MPV. Based on the contemporary Fiesta chassis, it features a higher seating position, increased ground clearance, and a more upright glasshouse to improve visibility and cabin space. The 1.4-litre Zetec engine provides modest performance suited for city driving rather than motorway cruising. While it lacks the driving dynamics of the Fiesta, its reliability and low loading lip made it a popular choice for pragmatic buyers.

Ford Fusion fun facts
- Despite the name, the European Fusion is entirely unrelated to the American Ford Fusion sedan, which was a larger mid-size car.
- The Fusion was one of the first small cars to offer a 'command' seating position, a feature that would later become standard in the subcompact SUV segment.
- The model received a significant facelift in late 2005, which introduced a 'soft-touch' dashboard and revised light clusters to improve perceived quality.
