About the Ford Cougar
Launched as the successor to the Ford Probe, the Cougar was Ford's attempt to capture the spirit of the iconic Capri using the 'New Edge' design language. Based on the CD132 Mondeo platform, it offered a more refined and spacious grand touring experience than its rivals, though it was often criticised for being less agile than the smaller Puma. The 2.5-litre Duratec V6 provides a smooth, linear power delivery and a distinctive soundtrack, making it a capable long-distance cruiser. While sales never reached the heights of its predecessors, it has gained a following as a rare and affordable modern classic.
