About the Ferrari 340 America

The 340 America was Ferrari's first grand tourer to utilise the 'long-block' V12 engine designed by Aurelio Lampredi, originally intended for Formula One racing. Built to capitalise on the American market's desire for larger displacements, it offered significantly more torque than the earlier Colombo-powered cars. Most examples were bodied by Vignale, though Ghia and Touring also provided coachwork, making each car virtually unique. Its competition pedigree was cemented by a victory in the 1951 Mille Miglia, driven by Luigi Villoresi.
