About the Ferrari 166 Inter
The 166 Inter represents Ferrari's first serious effort to build a road-going car for customers rather than just racing machines. Based on the 166 S and MM competition models, it utilised a detuned version of Gioacchino Colombo's legendary 2.0-litre V12 engine, providing a more tractable experience for the street. Each chassis was delivered to a coachbuilder of the client's choice, with Carrozzeria Touring of Milan producing the majority of the elegant Superleggera bodies. As a dual-purpose machine, it offered a rare combination of race-bred performance and continental touring capability that defined the brand's future.
