About the Datsun Stanza A10

The A10-generation Datsun Stanza, also known as the Violet or 160J in various markets, was a pivotal model for Nissan's global expansion in the late 1970s. Positioned between the Sunny and the Bluebird, it retained a traditional rear-wheel-drive layout at a time when competitors were shifting to front-wheel drive. While often criticised by contemporary journalists for its conservative styling, it earned a legendary reputation for durability, famously winning the Safari Rally four times consecutively from 1979 to 1982. For collectors, the A10 represents the final era of simple, robust Datsun engineering before the brand's transition to the Nissan nameplate.
