About the Datsun 160J A10

The A10-generation Datsun 160J, also known as the Violet, Auster, or Stanza depending on the market, was a conservative but robust family car. While its angular styling was often described as anonymous, its mechanical simplicity and rear-wheel-drive layout made it an exceptionally durable machine. This reliability translated into unexpected motorsport dominance, with the model securing four consecutive Safari Rally victories between 1979 and 1982. Today, it is a rare sight on UK roads due to low survival rates, making well-preserved examples increasingly sought after by JDM collectors.
