About the Daihatsu Leeza
The Daihatsu Leeza was introduced in 1986 as a more fashionable, 'semi-coupé' alternative to the utilitarian Mira. While the model launched with a 550cc engine, the 660cc version arrived in 1990 to meet revised Japanese kei car regulations, featuring a slightly longer body and improved safety equipment. Most early units were technically registered as commercial vehicles to exploit tax loopholes, but the 660cc L111 generation shifted focus toward passenger car comfort. Its distinctive sloping rear roofline gave it a unique silhouette in the kei class, though it significantly compromised rear passenger space.
