About the Chevrolet Onix
Launched in 2012 to replace the Chevrolet Corsa in South America, the first-generation Onix was developed by GM Brazil on the Gamma II platform. It quickly became the best-selling car in Latin America, praised for its robust build and the introduction of the MyLink infotainment system to the budget segment. The 1.0-litre SPE/4 engine was designed for reliability and flex-fuel capability, producing up to 80 PS when running on ethanol. While basic in its LS and LT trims, its success was driven by a balance of modern styling and low maintenance costs.

Chevrolet Onix fun facts

- Its 1.0-litre SPE/4 engine (Smart Performance Economy 4-cylinder) was a significant update of the older Econo.Flex family, featuring a new ignition system and reduced friction.
- Despite its popularity, early models faced criticism after receiving a zero-star rating in Latin NCAP crash tests in 2017, leading to structural reinforcements in later updates.
