About the Chevrolet Master

The 1938 Chevrolet Master represented the final evolution of the pre-war 'Stovebolt' era, featuring a distinctive horizontal-bar grille designed by Franklin Q. Hershey. While the Master Deluxe received the 'Knee-Action' independent front suspension, the base Master retained a rugged solid front axle, making it a preferred choice for commercial use and budget-conscious buyers. Its 216.5 cubic-inch overhead-valve straight-six was renowned for its durability and smooth torque delivery. Today, these cars are prized by collectors for their Art Deco styling and mechanical simplicity, often serving as the foundation for period-correct restorations or street rod builds.
