About the Chevrolet Chevette

Introduced in late 1975 as a response to the 1973 oil crisis, the Chevrolet Chevette was GM's first 'world car' based on the T-platform. It was the first American car built to metric measurements and featured a diagnostic plug for easier servicing. While underpowered by modern standards, its rear-wheel-drive layout and light weight made it a nimble, if basic, commuter. It became the best-selling small car in the U.S. for 1979 and 1980, eventually selling over 2.7 million units across its 12-year production run.
