About the Chevrolet Aveo T300

The T300 generation Chevrolet Aveo, marketed as the Sonic in North America, represented a significant step up in build quality and styling over its predecessor. Designed to compete in the competitive B-segment, it features distinctive 'motorcycle-inspired' exposed headlamps and a hidden rear door handle design. The 1.2-litre variant was the entry-level choice in Europe, prioritising fuel economy and low insurance costs over outright performance. While Chevrolet withdrew from the European market in 2015, the Aveo remains a common sight on the used market as a functional, no-frills commuter.

Chevrolet Aveo T300 fun facts

  • The T300 Aveo's instrument cluster was inspired by motorbike gauges, featuring a large analogue tachometer paired with a digital speedometer.
  • In North America, this generation was renamed the Chevrolet Sonic to distance it from the poor reputation of the earlier T200/T250 models.
  • The exterior design was led by Ondrej Koromház and was intended to look more aggressive and 'youthful' than typical subcompact cars of the era.
