About the Cadillac Series 62

The 1961 Cadillac Series 62 marked the debut of the seventh generation, introducing a more restrained and angular aesthetic compared to the flamboyant 1950s. Designed under Bill Mitchell, it featured distinctive 'skeg' fins—lower skegs that mirrored the upper tail fins—and a crisp, formal roofline. Under the hood, the 390 cubic-inch V8 provided effortless, silent torque, paired with a refined Hydra-Matic transmission. As the entry-level Cadillac, it offered a more attainable route to the brand's legendary prestige without sacrificing the smooth, 'magic carpet' ride quality for which the marque was famous.
