About the Volvo S40
The second-generation Volvo S40, launched in 2004, marked a significant shift for the brand by sharing the Ford Global C platform with the Focus and Mazda3. This resulted in a much more agile and engaging driving experience than its predecessor, while maintaining Volvo's reputation for safety and minimalist design. The 2.0D variant, powered by a PSA-Ford developed common-rail diesel engine, was a popular choice in Europe for its balance of punchy mid-range torque and impressive fuel economy. Inside, it featured the iconic 'floating' centre console, a hallmark of Volvo's modern Scandinavian interior aesthetic.
