About the Volvo 960
The Volvo 960 represented the pinnacle of the brand's traditional rear-wheel-drive era, receiving a significant facelift and technical overhaul for the 1995 model year. This update introduced a sophisticated multi-link rear suspension and the all-aluminium B6304 straight-six engine, which was part of Volvo's new modular engine family. Known for its exceptional build quality and safety innovations, the 960 offered a refined, quiet driving experience that rivalled contemporary German executive saloons. In 1997, the model was renamed the S90 as part of Volvo's new nomenclature, marking the end of an era before the transition to front-wheel-drive platforms.
