About the Volvo 140

The Volvo 144 debuted in 1966, introducing the clean, rectilinear design language that would define the brand for decades. The 1972 'Deluxe' (DL) model features the robust B20 engine and significant safety innovations of the era, including a collapsible steering column and reinforced doors. It was the first Volvo to use a three-digit naming system, where the second digit represented the number of cylinders and the third the number of doors. Known for exceptional build quality, the 140 series laid the mechanical foundation for the later 240 series.
