About the Subaru Impreza WRX STI GR
The third-generation WRX STI, known by the GR chassis code, marked a radical departure for Subaru by launching exclusively as a five-door hatchback. It featured significantly wider arches than the standard Impreza and a sophisticated Multi-Mode Driver Controlled Centre Differential (DCCD). While purists initially lamented the softer suspension and increased weight, the GR proved to be a more liveable daily driver with a much-improved interior. The 2.5-litre EJ257 engine provided a broad torque curve, though it remained susceptible to the head gasket and ringland issues common to the EJ series.
