About the Sauber C22

The C22 was the third Sauber designed under Willy Rampf and was raced in 2003 by Nick Heidfeld and Heinz-Harald Frentzen. Its Petronas 03A engine was a rebadged Ferrari V10 based on the works unit that took Michael Schumacher to the 2002 title, and the design focused on stiffness, reliability and a more compact, lighter package. Frentzen qualified fourth and finished sixth on the car's debut in Australia, but reliability became a problem as the season went on. The high point came at Indianapolis, where both cars scored in the same race for the first time that year and Frentzen finished third, helping Sauber to sixth in the Constructors' Championship with 19 points.
