About the Renault R28
Fernando Alonso gave the R28 its first laps at Valencia in January 2008, a week before its launch in Paris, and was joined at Renault by rookie Nelson Piquet Jr. Alonso ran near the top of the timesheets in testing as the team learned to set the car up without traction control or engine braking, and a shark-fin engine cover was added from the Spanish Grand Prix. Alonso won the Singapore Grand Prix from 15th on the grid after Piquet deliberately crashed to bring out the safety car, a scandal that later became known as Crashgate. He won again at Fuji two weeks later, and the car scored four podiums in all.
