About the Red Bull Racing RB5
Launched at Jerez in February 2009, later than most rivals to allow more development time, the RB5 was designed under Adrian Newey for the sweeping new aerodynamic rules and the return of slick tyres. Red Bull planned to use Renault's KERS but never raced it, and the car ran pull-rod rear suspension. Sebastian Vettel won four races and Mark Webber two, and by mid-season the RB5 had overtaken the Brawn BGP 001 as the fastest car, though the team finished second to Brawn in both championships. A flatter, wider nose introduced during the season became Red Bull's pattern for the rest of the V8 era.
