About the RAF 2203

The RAF-2203 'Latvia' was the primary minibus and ambulance used throughout the Soviet Union, produced by the Riga Autobus Factory. It utilised the engine and mechanical components from the GAZ-24 Volga, which made it relatively easy to maintain despite the heavy demands of its service life. The design featured a forward-control layout with a distinctive boxy silhouette that could accommodate up to 12 passengers. While it suffered from poor build quality and a high centre of gravity, it remained in production for over two decades due to a lack of viable domestic competition.
