About the Perodua Nippa
The Perodua Nippa was the first model from the Malaysian manufacturer to be exported to the United Kingdom, arriving in 1997. It is essentially a rebadged Daihatsu Mira (L200 series), produced under licence to provide affordable, basic transportation. In 1999, it gained notoriety for being the cheapest new car on sale in Britain, priced at just £4,995. While performance is modest, its extremely low kerb weight makes it surprisingly agile in urban environments, though it lacks modern safety features and refinement.

Perodua Nippa fun facts
- At its launch, the Nippa was the cheapest new car available in the UK, undercut only by the basic Fiat Seicento on specific promotions.
- The Nippa's ED-10 engine is a simple SOHC 6-valve design, prioritising fuel economy and ease of maintenance over outright power.
- Because of its Daihatsu roots, many mechanical parts are interchangeable with the contemporary Mira, aiding its longevity despite Perodua's small UK footprint.
