About the Minardi M02

Gustav Brunner developed the M02 from the M01 with a new pointed nose, compact sidepods, high exhausts and a further refined titanium-cased gearbox that helped save weight. It was launched on 16 February 2000 at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, painted bold fluorescent yellow to reflect title sponsor Telefónica. Marc Gené and Gastón Mazzacane scored no points, but a better finishing record put Minardi tenth in the constructors' championship ahead of Prost, qualifying the team for some television revenue in 2001. A highlight came at the United States Grand Prix, where Mazzacane briefly ran third ahead of reigning champion Mika Häkkinen before retiring with engine problems.
