About the Mercedes-Benz SLK R171
The 2008 facelift of the R171-generation SLK brought a sharper, Formula One-inspired nose and significant mechanical updates to the entry-level 200 Kompressor. Its 1.8-litre supercharged engine was tuned to produce 184 PS, providing a more spirited drive than the pre-facelift version while remaining the most efficient choice in the range. The R171 is best known for its 'Vario-roof' retractable hardtop and the innovative Airscarf neck-level heating system, which extended the convertible season. While the V6 and V8 models offered more raw power, the 200 Kompressor remains a popular collector choice for its balance of classic Mercedes-Benz build quality and lower running costs.
