About the McLaren MP4/6
The MP4/6 was the first McLaren with a Honda V12, the 3.5-litre RA121E, which Honda quoted at 725 bhp at 13,500 rpm, although Gerhard Berger and Ayrton Senna both felt it was no stronger than the old V10 in early testing. Senna won the first four races of 1991 while the faster Williams FW14 struggled with reliability, then pressed Honda and McLaren for upgrades as the Williams came good. By late season the V12 produced around 780 hp at 14,800 rpm, and Senna won in Hungary and Belgium, clinched his third title in Japan and won the finale in Australia. The car took eight wins, ten poles and McLaren's fourth consecutive Constructors' Championship.
