About the McLaren MP4-29
The MP4-29 was McLaren's first turbocharged car since the MP4/4 and was built around a customer Mercedes PU106A Hybrid, with Tim Goss and Neil Oatley among its designers. Jenson Button was partnered by Formula Renault 3.5 champion Kevin Magnussen, and the pair finished second and third in Australia after Daniel Ricciardo's disqualification. No further podiums followed and McLaren finished fifth in the Constructors' Championship, though the car was the most reliable of the year with 36 classified finishes out of a possible 38. Without a title sponsor it raced in a chrome livery with black accents, carrying large Mobil 1 logos at the opener to mark 20 years with ExxonMobil.
