About the McLaren MP4-22
Designed by a team including Paddy Lowe, Neil Oatley, Pat Fry and Mike Coughlan, the MP4-22 was revealed at Valencia in January 2007 and was McLaren's first car on Bridgestone tyres since 2001. It was one of the two fastest cars of the year and the most reliable, with no mechanical retirements, and Fernando Alonso and debutant Lewis Hamilton each won four races. The fierce rivalry between them and the espionage controversy proved costly, as McLaren was excluded from the constructors' championship and both drivers lost the title to Kimi Räikkönen by one point. A distinctive front wing that arched over the nose, first tested by Pedro de la Rosa, raced from the Spanish Grand Prix onwards.
