About the McLaren MP4-20

The MP4-20 was McLaren's 2005 car, an almost completely new design by Adrian Newey's team with a Mercedes-Benz V10 built by Ilmor. To recover downforce lost to the new rules it carried distinctive 'horn' wings behind the airbox, and a shorter wheelbase helped it get the most from its Michelin tyres. Kimi Räikkönen won seven races and Juan Pablo Montoya three, but engine reliability problems cost Räikkönen the Drivers' title and McLaren the Constructors' title to Renault despite winning more races. Continued development made it the fastest car in the field from mid-season, as its seven poles and 12 fastest laps showed.
