About the McLaren MP4/17

Kimi Räikkönen joined David Coulthard in 2002 to replace the retired Mika Häkkinen, and the MP4-17 used the Mercedes-Benz FO110M V10 on Michelin tyres. The car suffered reliability problems and underperformed, although Coulthard won at Monaco and Räikkönen took four podiums. McLaren finished third in the constructors' championship with 65 points, behind Williams and Ferrari. Rather than replace it outright, McLaren developed the car into the MP4-17D for 2003 while the MP4-18 was readied.
