About the McLaren MCL40
Designed under Rob Marshall for the 2026 regulations, which brought smaller, lighter cars and power units drawing far more of their energy from the electric motor, the MCL40 is raced by Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri. Its season began badly: Piastri crashed on the reconnaissance lap in Australia, and in China neither car started because of power unit problems, McLaren's first double non-start since 2005. A heavily updated version introduced in Miami brought better form, and Norris won the Hungarian and Dutch Grands Prix. After the Mexico City Grand Prix in November 2026, McLaren was fourth in the Constructors' Championship with 365 points.

How much is a McLaren MCL40 worth?
A typical McLaren MCL40 is estimated to be worth $11,480,000 (about £8,560,000).

McLaren MCL40 rarity in CarSpot
The McLaren MCL40 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 75 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
McLaren MCL40 fun facts
- Before it raced, RM Sotheby's sold the rights to an MCL40 for US$11,480,000 in Abu Dhabi in December 2025; the buyer receives Norris's or Piastri's chassis, in running order, in 2028.
- At Monaco it wore a metallic papaya and anthracite livery for McLaren's 1,000th Grand Prix, making McLaren only the second team after Ferrari to reach the milestone.
- As on every McLaren since the MCL35, its livery is applied as a vinyl wrap rather than paint.
