About the Land Rover Freelander L314

The L314 Freelander represented a major shift for Land Rover, moving away from traditional body-on-frame construction to a monocoque chassis with independent suspension. The Td4 variant, introduced in 2000, featured a BMW-sourced M47 common-rail diesel engine which significantly improved refinement and reliability over the earlier Di unit. While it lacked a low-range transfer box, it introduced the innovative Hill Descent Control (HDC) system to manage steep declines. It remained Europe's best-selling four-wheel-drive vehicle for five consecutive years after its launch.
