About the Land Rover 127
Introduced in 1983, the Land Rover 127 was the largest member of the coil-sprung utility range, designed to carry a crew of six and a full payload simultaneously. It was created by cutting a 110 chassis and welding in an extra 17 inches of steel, a process initially handled by Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations. The 3.5-litre Rover V8 was the preferred choice for heavy-duty applications, providing the necessary torque that the period's four-cylinder engines lacked. In 1990, the model was rebranded as the Defender 130 to align with the new Discovery-led naming strategy, though the 127-inch wheelbase remained unchanged.

Land Rover 127 fun facts
- The 127 was originally marketed as the '110 Crew Cab' before Land Rover adopted the more logical numerical name based on its wheelbase.
- Early 127 models were literally hand-built by cutting 110 chassis in half and extending them on a dedicated production line.
- Despite being renamed the Defender 130 in 1990, the vehicle's actual wheelbase has always remained exactly 127 inches.
