About the Lancia D50
Designed by Vittorio Jano for Lancia, the D50 used its 2,488 cc V8 as a stressed member of the chassis, set the engine off-centre to lower the car and carried fuel in side panniers for better weight distribution and aerodynamics. Reigning champion Alberto Ascari took pole and fastest lap on its debut at the 1954 Spanish Grand Prix, though the clutch failed after ten laps. After Ascari's death, and with Lancia in financial trouble, the team's assets passed to Scuderia Ferrari, which raced the car as the Lancia-Ferrari D50. Ferrari removed many of Jano's more radical ideas, and Juan Manuel Fangio won the 1956 World Championship with the modified car. D50s won five of the 14 World Championship Grands Prix they entered.

Lancia D50 rarity in CarSpot
The Lancia D50 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 100 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Lancia D50 fun facts
- Only six D50s were built, and two of them are displayed in Italian museums.
- Using the engine as a stressed chassis member, a layout virtually every later Formula One car adopted, was already part of the D50's design in 1954.
- Much modified, the cars raced on into 1957 as the Ferrari 801.
