About the Ford Corsair
Introduced as a more upmarket alternative to the Cortina, the Ford Corsair is best known for its distinctive 'V-shaped' nose inspired by the early 1960s Ford Thunderbird. While early models used the 1.5-litre Kent engine, the 1966 update introduced the 2.0-litre Essex V4, intended to provide smoother, more executive-level performance. Despite Ford's marketing claim that it was 'the car that is seen but not heard', the V4 engine was noted for its characteristic vibration and coarse idle. Today, it is a rare and characterful British classic, valued for its unique styling and period charm.

Ford Corsair fun facts
- The Corsair's aerodynamic nose was so sharp that an urban myth claimed it generated enough lift at high speeds to make the front wheels leave the ground.
- Ford used the marketing tagline 'I've got a V in my bonnet' to promote the new Essex V4 engine range.
- Though it looked entirely different, the Corsair was actually based on a lengthened Ford Cortina chassis to keep development costs low.
