About the Fiat Punto GT 176
The Fiat Punto GT (176) was the high-performance flagship of the first-generation Punto range, succeeding the legendary Uno Turbo. Powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine derived from the Uno, it delivered a punchy 136 PS in its initial 'Series 1' form, making it one of the quickest superminis of its era. Distinguished by smoked headlamps, unique 14-inch star-pattern alloys, and a subtle body kit, it offered a raw, old-school turbo experience with significant lag followed by a sudden surge of torque. While later versions saw power slightly reduced for emissions, the early GT remains the most sought-after by collectors for its uncompromised performance and period-correct character.

Fiat Punto GT 176 fun facts
- The Punto GT was the only model in the first-generation range to feature disc brakes on all four wheels, with ventilated units at the front.
- Despite its small size, the GT was surprisingly heavy for its class at 1,000kg, largely due to its extensive standard equipment including ABS and electric mirrors.
- The GT's engine was a direct evolution of the 1.4-litre unit found in the Mk2 Fiat Uno Turbo, but with a revised IHI turbocharger setup.
