About the Chevrolet Silverado
The first-generation Silverado, built on the GMT800 platform, marked a significant shift for Chevrolet by moving away from the long-running C/K designation. It introduced the hydroformed frame for increased rigidity and the new Vortec family of V8 engines, which offered a substantial leap in efficiency and power over the outgoing small-blocks. The 2000 model year was notable for the introduction of a fourth door on extended-cab models, greatly improving rear-seat accessibility. While primarily a workhorse, its refined ride quality and improved interior ergonomics helped bridge the gap between utility and daily comfort.
