About the Chevrolet Avalanche
The first-generation Chevrolet Avalanche introduced the 'Convert-a-Cab' system, featuring a unique 'Midgate' that allowed the rear wall of the cabin to fold down, extending the cargo bed from 5.3 feet to 8.1 feet. Built on the GMT800 platform shared with the Suburban and Cadillac Escalade EXT, it offered the ride quality of a full-size SUV with the utility of a truck. The 2002 model is instantly recognisable by its extensive light grey plastic body cladding, which was designed to protect the bodywork during off-road use. While polarising at launch, the Avalanche proved successful for its ability to carry six passengers and large cargo simultaneously.
