About the Cadillac Allanté

The Cadillac Allanté was a bold attempt to challenge European luxury roadsters like the Mercedes-Benz SL. Its bodies were designed and hand-built by Pininfarina in Italy before being flown 3,300 miles to Detroit aboard specially equipped Boeing 747s, a process known as the '9,000-mile assembly line'. The 1987 launch model featured a 4.1-litre V8 and a high-tech digital dashboard, though it was initially criticised for being underpowered compared to its rivals. Today, it is a unique collector's item representing the peak of 1980s American luxury ambition.
