About the Bentley S2
The Bentley S2 marked a pivotal moment for the marque, replacing the venerable straight-six with the all-aluminium 6.2-litre L-Series V8. This engine provided a significant boost in torque and refinement, allowing the heavy saloon to cruise effortlessly at speeds exceeding 100 mph. While externally almost identical to the S1, the S2 introduced standard power steering and a redesigned dashboard, further cementing its status as a premier executive express. It remains a highly usable classic, offering a blend of mid-century elegance and surprisingly modern mechanical competence.

Bentley S2 fun facts
- The L-Series V8 introduced in the S2 was so successful that its basic architecture remained in production for over 60 years, finally retiring with the Mulsanne 6.75 Edition in 2020.
- While Rolls-Royce famously described the power output as 'adequate', the S2 actually produced roughly 30% more power than the preceding S1.
- Early S2 models are known as 'transitional' cars because they often retained the dashboard layout of the earlier S1 before the new design was finalised.
