About the Bentley Continental R
Launched at the 1991 Geneva Motor Show, the Continental R was the first Bentley since the 1965 S3 Continental to feature a body not shared with a Rolls-Royce. It was based on the Turbo R chassis but featured a sleek, wind-tunnel-tested coupé body designed by John Heffernan and Ken Greenley. For the 1993 model year, the car benefited from the GM 4L80-E four-speed automatic transmission and an adaptive ride control system, significantly improving its grand touring capabilities. Despite its massive kerb weight, the turbocharged V8 provided effortless, 'sufficient' performance that defined the marque's 1990s revival.
