BAR 003

The spoon-nosed car that gave British American Racing its first podium finishes, both with Jacques Villeneuve in 2001.

About the BAR 003

Malcolm Oastler designed the 003 with Reynard's Andrew Green, adapting to the 2001 rules with a curious spoon-shaped nose carrying small arrow-shaped fins, while Willem Toet led aerodynamic development. Jacques Villeneuve found it slower and less stable than the 002 in winter testing, but Olivier Panis judged it a success while wanting a little more horsepower from the Honda RA001E. Villeneuve took third places in Spain and Germany and Panis was fourth in Brazil, yet weak single-lap pace often left the cars starting outside the top six. BAR finished sixth in the constructors' championship with 17 points, narrowly beaten by Jordan, which used the same Honda engine.

BAR 003 rarity in CarSpot

The BAR 003 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 42 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.

Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works

Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.

BAR 003 fun facts

  • As the team's lead driver, Villeneuve chose race number 10 rather than 9, which therefore went to Panis.
  • Where tobacco advertising was banned in France and Britain, the Lucky Strike logo was replaced by half a barcode.
