Alfa Romeo C42
Valtteri Bottas's first Alfa Romeo, a compact Ferrari-powered car that took the team to sixth in 2022.
About the Alfa Romeo C42
Built for the 2022 regulations, the C42 had the shortest wheelbase of any 2022 car and push-rod suspension at both ends, and Alfa Romeo designed its own fuel tank, rear suspension and gearbox casing rather than sourcing them from Ferrari. Former Mercedes driver Valtteri Bottas and rookie Zhou Guanyu both scored points on its debut in Bahrain, where Bottas's sixth was the team's best finish since 2019. Reliability problems cost practice running and caused several retirements, and despite an upgrade at Imola it faded after Canada. It still finished sixth in the Constructors' Championship, level on points with Aston Martin but ahead on countback thanks to Bottas's fifth place at Imola.

Alfa Romeo C42 rarity in CarSpot
The Alfa Romeo C42 is a Unicorn card in CarSpot, with a rarity score of 0 out of 100. The rarest tier: hypercars, one-offs and cars built in tiny numbers, typically fewer than about 500. A Unicorn card is worth 320 XP.
Each model's tier starts from a 0–100 score based on its value plus its power or production numbers. Once enough players have spotted a model, how often it is spotted can move it up or down one tier. How CarSpot rarity works
Rarity is a collectible game mechanic, not an assessment of real-world scarcity or value.
Alfa Romeo C42 fun facts
- Alfa Romeo skipped the C40 name, already given to the delayed new-generation design, to avoid a confusing C39, C41, C40 sequence.
- At the 2022 British Grand Prix, Zhou Guanyu's C42 flipped over Alexander Albon's Williams and launched over the tyre wall into the catch fencing.
- It was the only car to come in under the original 795 kg minimum weight, and after other teams lobbied the FIA the limit was raised to 798 kg.
