About the Williams FW35

The FW35 was designed under technical director Mike Coughlan and chief designer Ed Wood, and was the last Williams to use Renault's 2.4-litre V8 before the team switched to Mercedes power for 2014. Pastor Maldonado was joined by 2011 GP3 Series champion Valtteri Bottas, making his Formula One debut. The FIA declared its exhaust system illegal on the day of its launch in Barcelona, and after updates failed in Australia, where Maldonado called the car undriveable, the team reverted to the launch specification. Points came only from Maldonado's tenth in Hungary and Bottas's eighth at Austin, leaving Williams ninth in the Constructors' Championship with five points, its equal-worst season.
