About the Williams FW34

Williams built the FW34 for 2012 after its worst season, hiring former McLaren designer Mike Coughlan and promoting Jason Somerville to head of aerodynamics, and returned to Renault engines for the first time since 1997. Pastor Maldonado and Bruno Senna drove it, and it was far more competitive than the FW33, with Maldonado running sixth in Australia until he retired on the final lap. In Spain Maldonado took pole and won, Williams' first victory since Juan Pablo Montoya's in Brazil in 2004. The rest of his season was marred by penalties and accidents, with fifth in Abu Dhabi his next best result, while Senna's best was sixth in Malaysia.
