About the Mercedes-Benz Vaneo
The Mercedes-Benz Vaneo (W414) was a compact MPV based on the first-generation A-Class, designed to offer maximum interior volume within a small footprint. It utilised the innovative 'sandwich floor' construction, which allowed for a flat interior floor and improved crash safety by sliding the engine under the cabin in a collision. Despite its clever packaging and sliding rear doors, the Vaneo suffered from awkward styling and high pricing, leading to its discontinuation after just four years. The 1.7 CDI variant featured the OM668 common-rail diesel engine, prioritising fuel efficiency over performance in a vehicle primarily aimed at families and small businesses.
