About the Kia Sephia
The Sephia was Kia's first passenger car developed with its own chassis, marking a transition away from building licensed Mazda designs. While the 1.6-litre B6 engine was still sourced from Mazda, the platform was a proprietary development that aimed to offer budget-conscious buyers a reliable alternative to established Japanese rivals. In the UK and US, it was marketed as a value-driven proposition, offering more equipment for a lower price than the contemporary Ford Escort or Toyota Corolla. Today, early Sephias are rare survivors, representing the humble beginnings of Kia's rise to global prominence.
