About the Ferrari F310
The F310 was named after its 3.0-litre, ten-cylinder engine, the Tipo 046 engineered by former Honda man Osamu Goto, as Ferrari judged a V10 the best compromise between power and fuel efficiency. John Barnard's car began the year as the only low-nosed design on the grid and took on a high nose permanently from the Canadian Grand Prix. Michael Schumacher won three races in his first season with the team, but Eddie Irvine retired from eight consecutive races and the car could not match the Williams FW18. Irvine later called it an awful car, and Schumacher described it as a parachute.
