About the Ferrari 312T4

Mauro Forghieri's 312T4 was closely based on the 312T3 but redesigned to use ground effect, with the narrowest monocoque the team could make. The width of the Tipo 015 flat-12 intruded where the upswept underside should have been, so it worked more like the Lotus 78 than a full wing car, yet it proved extremely reliable, retiring only once for mechanical reasons. Introduced at the 1979 South African Grand Prix, it won three races each for Gilles Villeneuve and Jody Scheckter, as Scheckter won the Drivers' title and Ferrari its fourth Constructors' Championship in five seasons. It made way for the 312T5 at the start of 1980.
