About the Ferrari 312T

Mauro Forghieri designed the 312T to cure the 312B3's handling, using a tubular spaceframe reinforced with riveted aluminium panels, a narrower front and a new gearbox mounted transversely ahead of the rear axle to lower the polar moment of inertia, the T standing for trasversale. Its Tipo 015 flat-12 produced about 495 hp and the car's handling proved inherently neutral. Niki Lauda tested it extensively over the winter, and after a slow start he won four of five mid-season races and clinched the 1975 title with third at Monza, where Clay Regazzoni's win sealed the Constructors' Championship. Lauda won the first two races of 1976 and Regazzoni the third before the 312T2 took over.
