About the Ferrari 312B
Developed under Mauro Forghieri, the 312B introduced Ferrari's Tipo 001 flat-12, an engine often called a boxer although it is not a true one, chosen for its low centre of gravity and the clear airflow it left beneath the rear wing. Jacky Ickx won three Grands Prix in 1970 as he chased Jochen Rindt's points total, and Clay Regazzoni won the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, but Ickx could not close the gap and Lotus took the Constructors' title. Mario Andretti won the 1971 season opener in the car before the 312B2 took over from Monaco. In 19 races the original 312B took five wins, six poles and 11 fastest laps. Developed versions raced until early 1975.
